# TechTogether Meetups

Purpose: The TechTogether Meetup will provide underrepresented gender participants and allies with opportunities to connect, share ideas, and discuss challenges within the tech industry at the hackathon. We aim to enhance the overall hackathon experience and promote an inclusive atmosphere.

**These are fully optional for organizers. If your event can no longer host a TechTogether Meetup, let your Coach know. Finding a time slot for your meetup should never be stressful.**

We recommend hosting the meetup in a space where the group can talk casually (ex: a circle of seats, a lounge, or a nice outdoor space, weather permitting). We discourage holding these meetups in a classroom if possible; however, you may be able to move desks into a socratic seminar arrangement. We have also seen great success when meetups are hosted during or right next to mealtimes!\

Some hackathons partner with relevant local orgs (SWE, WiC, etc) to help facilitate meetups. Our Coaches can supplement the conversation with guided questions if desired, but we highly recommend collaborating with your local chapters and connections!\

Other hackathons opt to provide an alternative activity alongside the meetup. For instance, a meetup may turn into a more formal workshop (ex: hosting a Q+A panel of underrepresented speakers), or become a casual activity (ex: making bracelets or chatting over matcha/boba). We are intentionally very flexible with how you may host your TechTogether Meetup.

Overall, the goal is to create a respectful, inclusive space where everyone—especially underrepresented communities—feels empowered to participate in the hackathon. Please ask your HCM for more details if you have any other questions!
